I. NTNU faculty, staff, and students (including alumni and retired staff) can enter the Library with their student ID or a library card issued by the Library. Visitors' use of the Library shall be handled according to theLibrary Rules for Visitors.
II. NTNU faculty, staff, and students (including alumni and retired staff) may bring books, notebooks, paper, and stationery into the Library. Other items, unless otherwise approved by the Library, may not be brought inside. The above does not apply to the General Reading Room.
III. NTNU Libraries have open stack reading rooms and book collections for patrons to select books to read and put back when they are done. Photocopies may only be made inside the Library. Books should be put back as soon as the patron finishes making copies.
IV. In principle, the books and materials in special rooms and special areas of the Libraries cannot be borrowed, and can only be accessed in the designated room (area). Announcements will be made if books and materials from special rooms or areas will be available for patrons to borrow.
V. Regarding rare books in the collection, patrons may borrow them from the administrator with a student ID or library card, but the books may only be read indoors and cannot be taken outside.
VI. Patrons should take good care of library books, magazines, newspapers, and other materials and equipment, making sure not to deface or damage them. Violators shall be liable for compensation and have library privileges suspended for 3 months. Depending on the severity of the violation, the university may be notified to take additional action.
VII. Patrons must be properly dressed, stay quiet, and maintain the cleanliness of the Library. They must not litter, smoke, eat, or make noise inside the Library. Violators’ library privileges will be suspended for 3 months, and the university may be notified to take additional action depending on the severity of the violation.
VIII. In the case of theft of library materials or equipment: Students will be written up by the Office of Student Affairs, faculty or staff members will be reported to the President; Their library privileges shall be suspended for 6 months.
IX. Floors 4, 5, and 6 of the Main Library has 36 research rooms, the guidelines for which are established separately.
X. These guidelines have been implemented after being passed in an NTNU Administrative Meeting. The same applies to all subsequent revisions.
